But the true focus and outpouring of love in the sweltering, overflow gym on Thursday night was for Lonnie Chip Roberson and Kim Horton. They have combined to coach the Elsinore volleyball program for years, leading the Tigers to 15 league titles and the CIF-Southern Section Division 2A championship in 2009.

Very emotional night, co-head basketball coach Rick Wolter said. One of our mentor teachers, who helped us in coaching. It was a great night for him. Its great to see everybody come back to honor him. Hes a ntastic gentleman. Hes the one who taught us the concept of what we do.
WILDOMAR On the night Wildomar Elsinore High School packed the gym and held an emotional halftime ceremony to honor two longtime volleyball coaches, the boys basketball team beat Lake Elsinore Temescal Canyon,Insurance knowledge. 43-31, to extend its Sunbelt League winning streak to 39 games.

Its all about mily tonight, Rettinger said. Both Rick and I want to say thank you to Temescal Canyon for their class. They did a great job of being patient. They knew that this was going to be a special moment for Elsinore High School. A very hard, difficult moment. They showed a lot of class.
Also, this is about Kim and Chip Roberson. Theyre beautiful people. Its bittersweet. Its a game of basketball, but what its all about is drawing people together to honor Kim and Chip.

Roughly half the crowd wore white--with-Elsinore-red T-shirts that read BELIEVE and Chip Roberson and Kim Horton on the front. On the wall in the foyer is stenciled BELIEVE Chip Robe Roberson.

So much emotion in that game, Hicks said. All of my mily members here, packed house, huge game. I see her every day at school. Shes one of my vorite aunts. I love her.
Both longtime members of this uber-spirited school and tight-knit community are battling cancer.
A lengthy halftime ceremony, including Principal Jon Hurst, EHS activities director Danny Templeton, LEUSD Governing Board member Stan Crippen, and dozens of members of the student body, dedicated the gym floor to Roberson and the foyer and extensive trophy case to Horton.
